Forklift certification with hands-on training from Fairchild Equipment gives warehouse employees the knowledge and experience they need to drive a forklift. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), employees must have a certification to operate a powered industrial truck. Our training course provides the necessary certification for compliance and safe equipment operation.

OSHA Forklift Training Certification Requirements

OSHA requires employers to train their employees in forklift operation before they are eligible to operate the machinery. Training is based on:

  • Safe operation principles
  • Types of forklifts in the workplace
  • Workplace hazards

Forklift operators need to know how to operate forklifts in a safe manner based on these requirements. After completing training, each student must prove that they can operate a forklift before they receive certification. The certificate will include basic information, including the evaluation date.

Operators must renew their certifications every three years to make sure they still have the knowledge and skills needed for safe operation. Various factors may result in the need for additional training. For example, operators may need further training if:

  • They’re assigned to a different type of truck.
  • They’ve had an accident or near miss.
  • Workplace conditions change and affect lift truck operation.

Who Needs Forklift Operator Training?

Workers at least 18 years old seeking OSHA-approved forklift certification should take a Forklift Operator Training course. Our material targets workers in warehousing, construction and other general industries. We suggest that all students have knowledge of workplace safety and how to operate industrial equipment before taking this course.

Upon completing this course, operators will have the certification needed to operate the class of forklift they used for the training.

Forklift Certification With Hands-On Training

This class will train your lift truck operators in the safe operation of powered industrial trucks. It will provide the knowledge required to perform basic lift truck operations, following prescribed safety practices.

The cost of training is a flat fee per person. We also have a new Operator Training Kit. Training consists of two parts — a formal course and a practical demonstration.

Training Course

Our course includes lectures, videos, discussions and other educational materials to teach practical knowledge about forklift operation. Operators will learn about the following topics:

  • Basic lift truck stability and its importance
  • Proper load-handling techniques and other operational procedures
  • Proper inspection before operation and its importance
  • Forklift maintenance procedures
  • Charging and fueling procedures
  • Truck identification by class and appropriate uses for each
  • How to determine the capacity of a lift truck
  • Safety procedures and practices to prevent forklift accidents
  • Site-specific safety material supplied by your local safety department and OSHA
Individuals learning equipment safety training.

This Forklift Operator Training course will be approximately one and a half hours long. There will be a written test after the classroom portion of the training to verify understanding of the material. Students must pass the test before moving on to the demonstration portion.

Practical Demonstration

A site-specific hands-on evaluation will be included according to OSHA regulations. After an operator passes the written exam, their employer will train them to provide hands-on experience driving and operating a forklift. All dealership operator training will require an in-person evaluation at the operator’s workplace. This part of training gives students an opportunity to prove their ability to drive a forklift safely.

Our experts will make sure each operator is ready to drive a forklift in the workplace by testing them in areas such as:

  • Traveling
  • Picking up and putting down loads
  • Parking
  • Inspection
  • Fueling and battery recharging
